Redland City Council is asking for the support of the SEQ community to save the koala from extinction. The council is urging all to sign a petition aimed at putting pressure on the State Government to amend their
planning legislation so it stops killing SEQ koalas. "For the last two years koalas have been disappearing from the Redlands Koala Coast area at the rate of 1,000 per year. There are about 2,400 koalas left in the Koala Coast now, but at the current rate of decline they will be completely gone by 2012. Council, the community and the state government need to work together to stop this from happening."
